Going to the doctor is always stressful, for one simple reason-the weigh-in. I felt that way when I was thin and now that I am not thin. What baffles right now is that there is a great deal of information available about weight and BMI. But, there is so little agreement about just what people should weigh. I have seen articles listing exceptions to the BMI approach, especially for people who exercise alot, as they tend to have more muscle which weighs more than fat. Then there are exceptions based on ethnicity. There are also articles that I've seen about older people living longer if they have larger BMI's than would be recommended if they were younger. It is hard to know. I actually did ask my cardiologist who gave me a number better than i expected. Clearly, most of us in the U.S. Are too fat. But it is very challenging to know what we should each weigh.
